More Oregon parents are having their children opt out of required school vaccinations, pushing exemption rates to record highs and raising concerns about the state’s vulnerability to outbreaks of diseases that vaccines have kept largely in check for decades. During the 2025-26 school year, 11% of Oregon kindergarteners were missing at least one required immunization because their parents claimed a nonmedical exemption based on personal or religious beliefs.
