Your finger is an antenna, and the glass under it is quietly keeping score. A capacitive touchscreen doesn’t sense pressure. It senses charge. Beneath the cover glass sits a grid of transparent electrodes driven with a small AC voltage, building a uniform electric field across the surface. Your fingertip, being mostly conductive saltwater tied to a large grounded body, distorts that field the instant it gets close. The screen never needs you to push.
