In Focus: Shao Fan, ‘The Old Ape 1324’, 2024 at White Cube Mason’s Yard
Shao Fan draws deeply on traditional Chinese culture and Daoist philosophy, particularly the idea of harmony between humanity, animals and the natural world.
In the essay accompanying the exhibition, Wenny Teo reflects on the presence of animals in Shao’s work, describing an ‘instant of mutual regard’ in which ‘the positions of observer and observed, human and animal became fluid and undecidable’.
📍 ‘Refrain / 复沓’ is on view until 27 June 2026 at White Cube Mason’s Yard.
