(May 15th,1961) On this day in 1961, The Elgins,now renamed The Temptations thanks to Billy Mitchell’s suggestion, were signed to a crap contract with Motown Records after auditioning on March 13th,1961. While not focusing on that,the other significant event that day was the birth of what would be, in my opinion,the greatest male vocal group of all time. It started with these five founders pictured above: Otis Williams,Elbridge “Al” Bryant, Melvin “Blue” Franklin,Eddie “Corn” Kendricks,and Paul Williams. Those were the founders,despite what others say or believe. Paul,Elbridge, Eddie, and Melvin are missed,while Otis continues to carry on the legacy.
