The city of Plano has approved a plan to fund $700M towards the $3B total project β retail, restaurants, public gathering spaces, and a $1B new arena that would serve as the centerpiece of the development.
The approval marks the beginning of a deliberate and transparent process to consider a potential sports and entertainment district at The Shops at Willow Bend.
The City will own the arena and is expected to have an initial 30-year lease agreement with the team; terms are still to be negotiated.
Stars CEO Brad Alberts says the hope would be to begin construction in 2028 with an opening in the 2031-32 season, right after their current lease at the American Airlines Center in Dallas expires in 2031.
