Fry’s has been ordered to pay $120,000 after Arizona officials say the company failed to properly accommodate a deaf employee.
According to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, the employee worked at a Surprise location for more than a decade and repeatedly requested an ASL interpreter.
Officials say instead of providing effective communication support, the employee was expected to rely on lip reading, written notes, and family members during training.
The case escalated after the employee refused to sign documents he said he did not fully understand, and he was later fired.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said the case highlights the importance of equal access and fair treatment in the workplace.
