Most people drive over this part of Phoenix without realizing there’s an unfinished underground bus station hidden below.
Beneath Margaret T. Hance Park and the I-10 Deck Park Tunnel sits a transit station that was built in the early 1990s as part of Phoenix’s freeway expansion plans.
The idea was to create a bus hub under the park, where riders could get off beneath the freeway and use escalators or stairs to reach the surface.
But the project was never fully completed after funding issues left the station unfinished.
Today, the space remains closed to the public and is reportedly used for maintenance access and storage.
