A Phoenix woman has passed away nearly two months after police say she was hit by a driver who kept going.
72-year-old Sherry Hinojosa was crossing near 43rd Ave & Virginia on April 19 when police say a 24-year-old driver hit her and left the scene.
Witnesses reportedly called 911 and followed the vehicle until the driver eventually stopped near Thomas Road.
Police say the driver later admitted he had been drinking and knew he hit someone, but kept going because he was scared.
Sherry suffered severe injuries and passed away over the weekend. Her best friend is now demanding accountability and asking why the driver was released the same night.
Do you think the charges should change now that Sherry has passed away?
