🛑 STOP KICKING IT OUT! When children are defending, don’t just teach them to stop the attack and clear it away. Encourage them to win the ball back and keep it in the team. Yes, there will always be moments for emergency defending where safety comes first. But in the foundation phase, where results and scorelines don’t matter, we should be helping children stay on the ball and find solutions under pressure. This isn’t about ‘overplaying’ or pretending you’re the next Pep Guardiola. It’s about developing creative thinkers. It’s about teaching children to be brave, to make decisions on the ball, and to learn from their mistakes.
