Last week, Battalion Search and Rescue completed the Not Forgotten Project: Para las Madres, a six-day humanitarian search effort in southern Doña Ana County, New Mexico. During the project, volunteers located three separate death sites in the desert west of El Paso.
What makes this reality even more difficult is that there are no organized government search efforts in this region. Authorities do not conduct searches for the missing here, despite more than 300 people having been found dead in recent years. Most disturbing of all, a majority of those identified have been women and teenage girls.
We are an all-volunteer organization. We receive no government funding, no government assistance, and no compensation for this work.
