Do you need Zone 2 in your Hyrox training?
Maybe.
And the answer is probably different than what you’ve heard.
If your Zone 2 pace is slower than about a 10-minute mile…
Probably not.
At that point, I would rather see you focus on becoming generally fitter.
Walk.
Jog.
Run.
Build your fitness.
Because obsessing over heart rate zones while running 10+ minute miles isn’t the fastest path to getting better at Hyrox.
You likely just need a bigger engine.
But…
If your Zone 2 pace is closer to an 8-minute mile or faster…
Absolutely.
Now we’re talking about building a serious aerobic base.
Zone 2 can help you:
Recover faster between stations
Maintain pace deeper into the race
Handle more training volume
Improve long-term endurance
The key is understanding where you are.
Beginners often need fitness.
More advanced athletes need precision.
Don’t blindly follow what the elites are doing.
Train based on what YOU need.
