#TakeActionTuesday: As Juneteenth approaches, we recognize that even with laws like Title IX, Black girls still face greater barriers and fewer opportunities to participate in sports because of systemic racism. And too often, they grow up not seeing themselves reflected on some of the biggest stages in sports. A recent Andscape article highlights the importance of representation by revisiting pitcher Odicci Alexander’s electrifying 2021 run at the Women’s College World Series, and how it opened doors for young Black girls dreaming of playing softball. Odicci‘s story shows the progress that Title IX has made possible, while reminding us that equity is never guaranteed. Building a strong pipeline requires consistent access, investment, and a sense of belonging for every athlete at every level of the game.
