But Mister Softee isn’t just a Philly original because of the ice cream — the jingle is too. The tune, officially titled “Jingle and Chimes,” was written in 1960 by Philadelphian ad man Les Waas — a local legend who wrote and produced more than 970 jingles over his five-decade career, with this one becoming his lasting legacy.
