It is easy to destroy a wilderness. We hear stories about that all the time. But in places like Addo Elephant Park — a green mountainous region of South Africa’s Eastern Cape — a new story is beginning: not of taking from the wild, but learning how to bring it back. I recently got to visit the brand new discoverhiddn (an absolutely stunning eco-lodge hidden in the forest, with a food & wine service that will def win awards 😋) and to meet with the team who will be undertaking the long, complex mission of rewilding a giant stretch of Addo’s land. One of these local heroes is the_ecoventurist, whose family rewilded South Africa’s hugely successful Shamwari Game Reserve. He’s one of the many conservationists in Africa who are, in a way, turning back time - by restoring delicate lands, and protecting and returning indigenous species.
