Google's parent company is releasing 32 million mosquitoes into American neighbourhoods. None of them can bite you. Mosquitoes kill more people annually than any other animal. So Alphabet's Verily came up with a plan to fight mosquitoes with mosquitoes. They breed male mosquitoes — males don't bite — then infect them with a natural bacterium called Wolbachia. When these males mate with wild females, the eggs never hatch. Population collapses. This isn't theory. They've been running it in Fresno since 2017. In Singapore, the same approach cut dengue risk by over 70 percent. But the EPA hasn't approved it yet.
