FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Wednesday “defended" the World Cup's record ticket prices, according to the Associated Press. He pointed to other U.S. sports' playoff ticket prices in his defense, explaining that the average ticket price for a World Cup game was below $500 and "comparable" to World Series and NBA Playoff ticket prices. The AP reported that Infantini's claim "while true for resale prices does not appear to be accurate for list prices." Infantino later said that demand for tickets had “been ‘unprecedented’ and that if they were any cheaper there was a risk of them being sold ‘on the black market.’” He repeatedly pointed out that some $60 tickets had been made available. But the 130,000 tickets he mentioned account for just 1.9% of the total 7M seats being sold at the first World Cup involving 48 teams, per the London Times. 📲 LINK IN BIO TO READ MORE
