On Material: Cherry Gold Marble It begins as limestone — calcium carbonate settled on an ancient seabed. Heat and pressure deep in the crust recrystallize it into marble. The burgundy is hematite, an iron oxide scattered through the original sediment; the cream-and-gold veins came last, where mineral-rich fluids filled fractures in the buried stone and crystallized as they cooled. Quarried in the Chittorgarh region of Rajasthan, cut largely from remnant slabs of larger productions, and finished by hand in our atelier. No two pieces share the same veining.
