Hannah Smith was 23 years old — a Miles College graduate from Memphis celebrating one of the biggest milestones of her life — when a Carnival cruise excursion in the Bahamas changed everything.
According to her lawsuit, a crew member directed her to use the water near the dive platform as a restroom while the vessel was disembarking. She entered the water and was pulled into a spinning propeller. Emergency surgeries in Nassau. Airlifted to Miami. Both legs amputated.
The lawsuit also alleges that excursion employees pressured her into consuming large amounts of alcohol and marijuana before the incident — and that the vessel was not properly docked and the crew was untrained.
Carnival's response? The tour companies aren't owned by them. So they say it's not their problem.
