The drone wars are coming (well, if you’re in Ukraine/Russia...they’re already here)...this week the Department of War pushed out an industry proposal to ensure American “drone dominance” in the future—part of the administration’s “American Drone Dominance Initiative.” The goal is to rapidly equip U.S. combat units with massive numbers of low-cost, lethal—and American-made drones. . The Pentagon has wiped away regulations that slowed drone adoption and pushed purchasing/usage authority down to unit commanders. Now, the second phase—kickstarting U.S. industrial capacity to deliver hundreds of thousands of attack drones at (hopefully) dramatically reduced cost. . The request for information pushed out this week outlines a 2-year, $1 billion effort (proposals due back in early 2026) for the defense industry to enter four competitive “gauntlets” to produce ~340,000 small one-way-attack drones.
