Sikorsky unveiled the S-70UAS “U-Hawk” at Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C....and it’s a big leap in rotary-wing warfare—a fully autonomous helicopter without a cockpit and 25% more cargo space. Basically, the U-Hawk transforms a UH-60 Black Hawk into a pilotless aircraft capable of flying fully solo with minimal inputs from a soldier using a tablet. With 95% parts commonality with the huge UH-60 fleet, the design simplifies maintenance and parts availability while bringing UAS capability to the Army.
