We, the members of Chi Upsilon Sigma National Sorority, Inc., honor Juneteenth through celebrating the joy of freedom and uplifting its legacy.   On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that over 250,000 enslaved Black people were free. But freedom (as if often does) came with resistance. Black communities fought to protect this day, even purchasing land just to have a safe space to gather. That resilience is what Juneteenth represents.   This day is a declaration that Black history, culture, and citizenship demand to be remembered. The Juneteenth flag (red, white, and blue) affirms that those freed in Texas were American citizens. The lone star reminds us of where this day began.   Because #Juneteenth has and always should be a testament to the unyielding spirit of a people.
