The Diamond Heels built a massive lead and held off a desperate West Virginia rally in the late innings to beat the Mountaineers 12-7 and advance to the national championship series in Omaha this weekend. Carolina led the entire game, scoring two runs in the first inning, three in the third, three in the fourth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh to lead the Mountaineers 12-1. Owen Hull and Gavin Gallaher drove the UNC offense, each banging out four hits and combining for six RBI and five runs scored. That offense stood in support of a collective pitching effort.
