Before becoming one of the most hated heels in wrestling, The Iron Sheik was the assistant coach of the United States Olympic wrestling team. Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri had been a national wrestling champion in Iran and a personal bodyguard for the Shah before fleeing the country in the late 1960s following the suspicious death of his idol, Iranian wrestling legend Gholamreza Takhti.
