Allen Matthews, an experienced and award-winning Bay Area journalist and UC Berkeley alumnus, passed away in May at the age of 62. Matthews was born in 1962 and was a third-generation Oaklander. While attending UC Berkeley, he studied English and worked for The Daily Californian for four years. He was an avid jogger, cook, reader and traveler. Outside of his job, he also made time to volunteer at local schools and be the team parent for his daughter’s high school water polo team.
