Cheerleaders and glitter-adorned dancers stomped and smiled while parade floats rolled toward the annual Juneteenth festival in Northeast Portland Saturday. Hundreds gathered along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for the Clara Peoples Freedom Trail Parade to celebrate the holiday that marks the date in 1865 when the last enslaved Black Americans learned of their freedom. The morning parade was followed by hours of music, performances and speakers at the Juneteenth Oregon festival at Lillis-Albina Park.
