Nobody tells you this about freelancing in motion design — It’s not about having the best work. It’s about who knows you and trusts you. You can have a killer portfolio and still hear nothing. You can have decent work and stay booked because someone vouched for you, or they’ve just been watching you show up consistently. Social media is one way to build that trust at scale. But plenty of people stay busy without ever posting — they just know the right people, and when a problem shows up, they’re the name that comes to mind. Frequency matters. Showing your work matters. But at the end of the day, someone has to trust you enough to hand you their project. Build the relationships. Be visible. Solve problems for people. The work gets you in the room.
