There’s a quiet luck that doesn’t always get celebrated: having friends with whom you can drop the mask. Friends with whom emotional depth is normal, not a performance. With whom you can show vulnerability without fear of being judged, used, or analyzed. These are spaces where you share honestly, without constantly wondering if someone is evaluating you, will use this against you later, or is trying to gain something. Today, these spaces feel increasingly rare. Extreme individualism, the competition to be “unique”, spiritual materialism, the urge to fit an idealized archetype, fear of failure, and the lack of authenticity with ourselves make deep connection difficult—and often avoided. Over the years, I’ve noticed that these kinds of relationships are getting scarcer… and many people actively avoid them.
