June 17th is Global Garbage Man Day! This day honors the men and women in the waste management profession, especially those that travel down your street once a week to collect waste. For today, Howard letterpress printed an image from a halftone of an old garbage truck. This cut is from the Frank Cowsert Collection. The text below, “Global Garbage Man Day,” was typeset in 30 point Caslon font. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. Halftones were used to introduce photography in newspapers and books starting in the late 1880s.
