Just days before its grand opening ceremony, the Obama Presidential Center unveiled the first official portrait of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.⁠ ⁠ The artwork was painted by Njideka Akunyili Crosby and will be on display in the museum's Hope and Change lobby, which is open and free to the public.⁠ ⁠ The Obamas saw the piece for the first time on Monday, calling it "so pretty" and "beautiful."⁠ ⁠ "It's us and all of the stories within the story," Michelle Obama said as she viewed the piece, adding "oh my God you got everything in there."⁠ ⁠ Barack Obama said he has just one question after viewing the piece.⁠ ⁠ "How come you didn't dye my hair in the photo?" he said as the crowd watching the moment laughed.
