Cleanup crews pulled more than 2,500 pounds of trash from Arizona’s Salt River following a busy weekend. According to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, volunteers recovered 39 phones, three umbrellas, one hamster cage, and 22 pounds of discarded vapes during the cleanup. Officials say the vapes are especially concerning because batteries and other materials can leak into waterways that eventually connect to Valley water systems. ADEQ says it was the largest amount of vapes they’ve ever seen recovered from the river during a cleanup.
