Tonight we had the honor of welcoming, Dr. JB Martin IV the great grandson of Dr. JB Martin Sr.
Dr. Martin Sr and his brothers were owners of the Memphis Red Sox’s Negro League baseball team from 1927 to 1960. Dr JB Martin Sr was the longest tenured president of the Negro Baseball League. He served 21 years.
Dr. Martin owned his baseball stadium Martin Stadium in Memphis, where the Red Sox played.
His great grandson Dr. JB Martin IV is a pediatric dentist in Virginia, but came to Memphis today to honor the legacy of his great grandfather and the Memphis Red Sox by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch!
