I used to think if I just found the right words, she’d believe me.
So I said them.
All of them.
Calm voice, steady eyes, the whole reassuring script.
And she’d still be frozen at the door, and I’d walk away wondering what was wrong with the way I was saying it.
Nothing was wrong with the words.
I was just aiming them at the wrong part of her.
Here’s what took me years (and a daughter of my own) to understand: when a child’s body is in alarm, the thinking part isn’t driving.
You’re reasoning with someone who’s already underwater. It’s not that she won’t hear you - she can’t, not yet.
The morning only started to shift when I stopped leading with logic and started with her body.
Settle first.
Talk second.
In that order, the words finally had somewhere to land.
If the explaining-on-repeat is where you’re stuck, that’s exactly what the toolkit walks you through - the part no one teaches.
Comment toolkit and I’ll send it over.
