UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that he will be stepping down as soon as his successor as party leader is chosen, possibly as soon as the middle of July – and certainly by early September. Andy Burnham, the former mayor of Greater Manchester whose resounding victory in a by-election last week set in motion Starmer's resignation, has confirmed that he will put himself forward to be his successor. The next national election doesn’t have to be held until 2029, but British politics allows parties to change leader midterm without the need for a general election. CGTN’s Jen Copestake breaks down how events could unfold over the coming weeks. #uk #ukpolitics #ukpols #starmer #keirstarmer #andyburnham #england
