Wellness and community events can be intimidating.
Am I shy? No. Do I spend the night before wondering if everyone already knows each other, if I’ll say the wrong thing, if I’ll look out of place, etc? Absolutely. 😅
So if you’re nervous about showing up alone, especially to a run club, workout class, or wellness event, remember:
• Most show up with the intention to meet new people.
• Effort stands out more than ability. People admire showing up way more than how fast, strong, or “fit” you look.
• You don’t need to already “know people” to belong.
• The “regulars” weren’t always regulars. Everyone had a first day where they felt lost walking in.
• The first 10 minutes is usually the hardest part.
• A simple “how’d you find this?” or a genuine compliment is usually enough to break the ice.
The first time is courage. The second time is familiarity. The third time, you’re the person making it easier for someone else to stay!
