The Parks and Recreation Department has been working hard across the island to strengthen the places where our community comes together. More than 70 parks have been upgraded, with improvements to courts, swimming pools, stadiums, and ADA access throughout the island so more people can enjoy these spaces.
A big focus of this work has been making sure everyone truly feels like they belong. That includes building two fully inclusive playgrounds designed so keiki of all abilities can play side by side, without barriers.
Early in this effort, a group of moms shared their experiences about how some playgrounds were not accessible for their children. That conversation led to something powerful. Working together with our Parks and Recreation team, their ideas helped shape the first inclusive playground at Kamalani.
