• On July 10th, the first day of the 2026 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships begin at Hayward Field. Dyson Wicker competed in the men’s pole vault competition entering top five in the country with an outdoor best of 5.72m. Coming off a Big Ten individual title and qualifying for outdoor nationals at regionals, Wicker aimed to become the first Husker pole vault champion since 2003.
Wicker began two for two clearing 5.50m and 5.60m in one attempt each. Soon followed what would be the sophomore’s closest call, clearing 5.70m using all three attempts. What followed would become the run of Wicker’s career thus far. With little competitors left, Wicker cleared 5.75m, 5.80m and 5.85m in a ten minute span; all on his first attempt. With an outdoor PR of 5.72m and a lifetime best of 5.79m, hitting back-to-back personal best’s on the biggest stage would be enough to win the individual title.
