In the early 1990s, Sega and Sony were exploring a partnership in gaming. Sega even sent engineers to help Sony learn how to build consoles and games. When Sega backed out of the deal, Sony used what it had learned to launch the PlayStation. The console would go on to outsell every Sega console combined and help push Sega out of the hardware business.
