The City of Avenal is responding after California Attorney General Rob Bonta granted permission for a lawsuit seeking to remove four Avenal City Council members from office following a recall election that voters approved earlier this year.
In an opinion released Wednesday, June 17, Bonta authorized a quo warranto action against Councilmembers Alvaro Preciado, Leticia Gamez, Pablo Hernandez and David Reynosa.
A quo warranto lawsuit is used to determine whether someone is legally entitled to hold public office.
The dispute stems from an April 28 recall election in which more than three-quarters of voters supported recalling all four council members, according to Kings County election results.
