Dancing with MANATEES 🩵 ⠀ 🔸 Manatees are gentle marine mammals, often called sea cows... or even floating potatoes 🥔 . Slow, peaceful, and deeply curious, they move through the water with a quiet grace that feels almost meditative. This was my first time in Crystal River and my first time ever sharing the water with manatees - after living in Florida for 10 years. ⠀ 🔸 When you’re with manatees, you must stay still, move very slowly, never chase them, and always keep your distance. If they choose to approach you, you remain calm and still. ⠀ 🔸A mama and her baby were so curious that I made a few soft, slow movements while they observed me - completely on their terms. ⠀ 🔸So grateful to discovercrystalriver for the experience, to the warm hosts at paddletaillodge and to the incredible team who woke up before sunrise to guide me and teach me how to be near manatees the right way.
