In recognition of Juneteenth, our youngest NYC Ballet Summer Intensive students had the opportunity to participate in a special celebration and lesson on the ‘Cakewalk’ led by Candice Franklin candicegetsdown2. Students learned about the history and cultural significance of the Cakewalk, exploring how dance can serve as both a form of artistic expression and a reflection of history. Through movement, storytelling, and discussion, they gained a deeper understanding of the traditions, creativity, and resilience that continue to influence the arts today.
