A new era of
#NCAAgym has arrived as the NCAA DI Cabinet has approved the age-based eligibility model.
Under this new model, athletes get five years to use five seasons of eligibility. The clock starts when an athlete enrolls in college or the academic year following their 19th birthday, whichever comes first.
There are no provisions for medical redshirts or deferring to train for the Olympics with this model. The only exceptions are pregnancy, active military service, and religious missions.
All current NCAA athletes (rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors) are eligible for an additional year of eligibility except for those who just exhausted their eligibility this past season.
