Hundreds of geese in a North Alabama lake could soon be killed and neighbors are pushing back. In Madison’s Edgewater community, the HOA voted June 8, 2026 to euthanize more than 226 Canada Geese at Lady Ann Lake. The HOA says overpopulation is harming water quality, public health and safety. Many residents disagree. Neighbors have protested for two days and a 15-year-old even launched a petition with over 3,500 signatures to stop the plan. Some say the geese are the reason they moved there. Critics argue that capturing the birds and euthanizing them with gas is inhumane. A similar removal happened in 2020, but a new flock returned just 2 weeks later. While residents push for alternatives, the HOA needs a Cooperative Service Agreement with the USDA to move forward with another goose removal operation.
