My legs were done. My data wasn’t.
This threshold workout felt harder than it should’ve.
Two data metrics I look at to track progress are HR and resting HR which were both high. Same route. Same pace. Same workout. This was demotivating because the first thing I thought was “I’m not gaining any fitness” but I realized there was more to it.
I went on a 5 day running streak because I wasn’t able to do my track workout Friday. In this new track I went to, I needed a membership and the staff didn’t take cash.
As a result, I ended up running track on Saturday, hit my progressive long run on Sunday and without realizing the new week was just about to start. This meant, another easy 6 miler on Monday and then speed work on Tuesday.
The workout felt harder than it should’ve but then I remembered, lack of sleep increased perceived effort, higher volume without a rest day meant heavier legs, high humidity meant harder pacing. All things that help HR fluctuate.
