Okay, so this is not really about cats and dogs.⁣ ⁣ But billionaire “dog” corporations do exist, and Energy Transfer, led by Trump-donating chairman Kelcy Warren, is one of them.⁣ ⁣ For nearly a decade, Energy Transfer has pursued abusive lawsuits against Greenpeace entities for solidarity with the Standing Rock protests, in an attempt to punish free speech, erase Indigenous leadership, and deter the wider climate movement.⁣ ⁣ In the US, Energy Transfer was awarded a US$345 million judgment, which the Greenpeace defendants will appeal if a new trial is not granted.⁣ ⁣ Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, Greenpeace International has hit back with an anti-SLAPP case against Energy Transfer, asking a Dutch court to recognise these lawsuits for what they are: corporate intimidation dressed up in legal paperwork.⁣ ⁣ And the counter-suit has already cleared the first hurdle: the Dutch court rejected Energy Transfer’s attempt to have the case thrown out.
