Today turned out better than I expected. With Zion getting ready to be a senior, driving herself everywhere, and building her own life, I figured Father’s Day might be one of those days where Dad takes a back seat. Truth is, I was preparing myself for that. Instead, Zion and her “brother” Brody surprised me and took me out for the day. We headed to Senoia, Georgia, walked around the town where much of The Walking Dead was filmed, checked out the sights, and wrapped up the afternoon with lunch at Nic & Norman’s, the restaurant owned by Norman Reedus and Greg Nicotero. (Nic & Norman’s) For once, I got to sit in the back seat and let somebody else do the driving. As my youngest gets closer to leaving the nest, I’m reminded that parenting doesn’t end, it just changes. Today was a good reminder that even as our kids grow up, they still find ways to make us feel loved.
