Jimmy Hart, the manager known as “The Mouth of the South,” was the longtime manager of the Hart Foundation, the rule-breaking tag team of Bret “Hitman” Hart and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.
On the September 17, 1988 episode of WWE Superstars (then called the WWF), Jimmy Hart sold the Hart Foundation’s contract to the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers, ending his association with Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart.
The move turned the Hart Foundation into fan favorites and helped establish the Rougeau Brothers as rule breakers. Jimmy Hart went on to manage the Rougeaus against his former team, keeping a percentage of the Hart Foundation’s earnings and directing it to the Rougeaus, who were given the right to appear at ringside during the Foundation’s matches. The split fueled a feud between the two teams.
The Hart Foundation went on to become one of WWE’s most celebrated tag teams, winning the World Tag Team Championship again at SummerSlam 1990 and holding it into 1991.
