Cynthia Westcott (1898-1983) received a PhD from #cornelluniversity in 1932. A plant pathologist, she filled in at an extension office in Alabama in WWII and was able to diagnose an on-going plant epidemic. However, at the end of the war when her male counterpart returned, she had to leave the position with no benefits or pension and had to pursue self-employment.
