🌷Not all headquarters look like this, but we’re grateful that ours does. ⁠ ⁠ Welcome to the River Farm Diary, where we’re introducing you to our world: the botanical backdrop of our organization. This historic property, situated on the bank of the Potomac River, used to be part of George Washington’s holdings and now serves as the headquarters of the American Horticultural Society. It’s historically layered, ecologically rich, and—if we’re being honest—a lot of work. ⁠ ⁠ Our on-the-ground staff - led by horticulturist Tammy Burke has recently expanded to also include Ed Harrington, who joined our team as Gardens and Grounds Assistant Manager after spending 20 years down the road at Mount Vernon (mount_vernon). ⁠ ⁠ One thing about Ed? He’s consistent and creative. He shows up to tackle invasive vines that have overtaken surrounding woods, restores failing stone walls, and develops plans to brace and preserve mature trees.
