This International Scoliosis Awareness Day, we're sharing Evelyn's story. 💙 At 13, Evelyn was diagnosed with scoliosis after experiencing unexplained breathing issues and persistent spine pain. Her mom, Michelle, first noticed something wasn't right when Evelyn's Grade 8 graduation dress didn't sit evenly. Now 15, the avid rock climber and cross-country skier recently underwent spinal fusion surgery after spending five weeks at Holland Bloorview as part of an innovative care pathway developed in partnership with SickKids. This new clinical pathway allows youth like Evelyn to prepare for surgery in a rehabilitation setting that supports not only their medical needs, but their overall well-being—helping them continue to learn, create, connect and simply be kids.
