People keep telling us to “move on.”
As if love has an expiration date.
As if healing means leaving someone behind.
After my dad died, I spent a long time wondering if feeling happy again meant I was forgetting him.
It didn’t.
Grief taught me something I wish someone had told me sooner.
You don’t move on from the people you love.
You move forward with them.
Their voice becomes your inner voice.
Their lessons become your decisions.
Their love becomes part of the way you love others.
The relationship doesn’t end.
It changes.
That’s why years later, I still catch myself thinking,
“Dad would have loved this.”
I still wish I could call him.
I still miss him.
And I also laugh.
I dream.
I build.
I keep living.
None of those things erase my grief.
They exist alongside it.
Maybe healing was never about letting go.
Maybe it was always about learning how to carry love differently.
